AS A SHAREHOLDER IN JUKEBOX, THE BRILLIANT GROUP-WINNING SON OF SNITZEL, I HAVE AVAILABLE A NOMINATION TO THIS EXCITING YOUNG SIRE.
Undefeated in two starts as a juvenile, the Ciaron Maher-trained colt was a dominant winner of the Listed Inglis Premier (1200m) at 2, and returned in the spring to win the stallion-making Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m).
In the Vain Stakes Jukebox produced a race-best sectional for the final 200m. His winning-time of 1:04.87 on a Soft 6 was exceptional…to put this in perspective, Russian Revolution won the race the previous year in a time of 1:05.14 on a Good 4.
Jukebox ran true to his pedigree being from the top-class Stakes winning juvenile Jestatune, a daughter of Golden Slipper winner and leading speed influence Rory’s Jester, who of course is also the broodmare sire of leading speed influence Not A Single Doubt (who, like Snitzel, is a son of Redoute’s Choice).
A half-sister to Group I winner Ihtsahymn, Jestatune is from another Stakes winning juvenile in Umatune, a daughter of Group I winning 2YO and leading sire Umatilla.
Jukebox is linebred 4f x 4m to Dancing Show. The double of Dancing Show within five generations and through different individuals means Jukebox is bred, like so many good ones including Winx, on the Rasmussen Factor.
Jukebox was heavily fancied to win the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at 2;
“His work leading into the Blue Diamond was sensational and we were as sure as you can be that he would win a Group 1,” Maher’s now co-trainer David Eustace said. “He is the best natural athlete I have ever worked with, both in Australia and in England and it was a huge disappointment when he had to be scratched on the eve of the Blue Diamond.”
Ciaron Maher echoed those sentiments, calling Jukebox “the best two year-old we have had, early, sharp and natural. I can’t wait to train his progeny.”
Jukebox’s 2YO form was franked at 3 when, following his victory in the Group 3 Vain Stakes, he was beaten just three-quarters of a length next time out, running second (and conceding 2KGs) to the previous season’s Group One Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m). Previous winners of this race include Rory’s Jester, Falvelon, Fastnet Rock, Jetspur and Black Caviar.
Jukebox will have his first two-year-olds racing in 2021/22 and while he has a small first crop numbering 43 foals – Extreme Choice let us not forget had a first crop of 48 foals yet finished the season as Leading First Season Sire with three individual Stakes winners including Group One Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside. Nine of Jukebox’s first crop 2YOs are nominated for the Slipper.
