Millisecond’s Pedigree

Millisecond (Canny Lad – Damowin, by Danehill), winner at 2yrs at 900m, was an $8,000 purchase at the 2009 Inglis Scone Broodmare Sale. She is the first foal out of Damowin (Danehill – Orwhina, by Vain). With 2 wins at 2yrs at 1200m, Damowin is the dam of 3 named foals, 2 to race and both winners, incl. Stand In (g., Quest for Fame (GB)); 3 wins, 1300m to 1600m to 2009-10. Her 2006 unraced Hussonet(USA) colt, named Hussowin, made $570,000 at the 2008 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Damowin also has a 2008 Starcraft filly to race for her (sold for $20,000 at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale). Damowin was covered by Hussonet(USA) again in 2009 and is believed to be in foal.

Damowin is out of a wonderful producer, the blue-hen mare Orwhina (Vain – Orana Miss, by Dignitas). Herself a winner of 4 races, 2 at 2yrs at 1000m and 1200m, Orwhina is the dam of 13 foals, all raced, with 11 winners. Her 5 black type progeny include the group 1 winner Jetball (c. Marscay) and the group 1 placed Marwina (c. Marscay). These multiple group winning brothers both retired to stand at stud.

Jetball was The Joint Top of the 1993-94 Australasian 3YO Classification (1000m – 1400m). His 7 wins, 3 at 2yrs, 1000m to 1200m and $466,608, include the AJC Galaxy H., Gr 1, STC Pago Pago S., Gr 2, Star Kingdom S., Gr 3 and the NSW Tatt’s RC Roman Consul S., Gr 3. jetballJetball had initially been retired to stud in New Zealand, where he stood from 1994-1999, however following his early successes at stud he was repatriated to Australia in 2000. Initially standing in Victoria, he moved to New South Wales in 2006 to stand at Ilala Stud, Scone where he stood his first season at a fee of $8,800. However Jetball encountered fertility problems subsequent to his move to NSW and there are no registered progeny listed for Jetball in the Australian Stud Book since 2005. From his 10 crops, Jetball sired 230 winners (56.4% winners/runners), 14 SWs (3.4% winners/runners) and his progeny earnings amounted to $4,784,318.

This aged stallion is still in high demand (he covered a book of 81 mares in 2008 at a fee of $22,000). Canny Lad stands at Darley, Kelvinside and his 2010 fee is $16,500. Canny Lad has also proved himself a top class broodmare sire, finishing the Australian 2009-10 season in 9th position on the Broodmare Sires’ List.
