From three crops and 236 foals of racing age, Written Tycoon has sired 77 winners from 131 runners (59%), including 4 Stakes winners. He was the Champion First Season Sire of Australia in 2010/11 and, impressively, his 12 individual Stakes performers were conceived on a fee of $8,000 or less.
Written Tycoon’s star is steadily on the rise. He had 2 yearlings sell for $220,000 at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale – that is 33 times his 2010 stud fee. His sale average was $121,375, while his median was an impressive $124,000. His current crop of two year olds is his biggest to date, while he is currently covering his best book of mares since retiring to stud.
In 2009 Eliza Park purchased Written Tycoon for $625,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Sale. He subsequently stood his first 5 seasons at stud at Eliza in Victoria. For the 2012 season Written Tycoon stood at Eliza’s Queensland operation. He has since been bought by Woodside Park in Victoria for $3million where he has stood this past season at a fee of $13,750. It is great for Victorian breeders to have such an exciting sire back on their door step.
Written Tycoon’s pedigree combines the sire lines of Last Tycoon, Marscay, Kenmare, and Vain. He is a complete out cross to Danehill.
Yesterday, Written Tycoon sired his 4th individual Stakes winner when It Is Written (Danehill Dancer) won the Listed Testa Rossa S. (1200m) at Caulfield for trainer Robbie Griffiths. The 5yr old gelding beat Richie’s Vibe (Danerich) and Chiaramonte (Redoute’s Choice). It Is Written now has 7 wins and 8 placings from 24 starts and earnings of $347,973.
Written Tycoon’s other Stakes performers include G2 winner Howmuchdoyouloveme (Celtic Swing), G3 winner Trump (Black Minnaloushe), Listed winner Grand Tycoon (Grand Royale), plus the very good Stakes-placed Masthead (Redoute’s Choice); 2nd in the Roman Consul S. G2 and 3rd in the Blue Diamond S. G1.
