Spinning World: The successful sire is already making a name for himself as a world class broodmare sire.

It appears the best is yet to come from veteran Coolmore sire SPINNING WORLD (USA), 1993, (Nureyev – Imperfect Circle, by Riverman). Already a proven sire of 41 individual Stakes winners, including 8 G1 winners, Spinning World has always been a consistent sire of winners with an impressive record of 64.5% winners to runners. His success at stud is all the more impressive when we take into account his well-documented fertility issues (in Australia to-date he has had just 545 live foals from 1089 mares covered during his first 12 seasons at stud; 1998 – 2009). While his fertility issues have hampered the number of foals Spinning World has produced, it has certainly not affected his ability to consistently sire top-class runners; highlighted by his Group/Grade 1 winners SPECIAL HARMONY (AUS), HEAVENLY GLOW (AUS), SPIN AROUND (AUS), THORN PARK (AUS), ARLINGTONBOULEVARD (NZ), LYRICAL BID (AUS), SPINNING QUEEN (GB) and ANCIENT WORLD (USA). In 2010 Spinning World (pictured below) covered 50 mares in Coolmore Australia at an advertised fee of $6,600.

Spinning World’s sire sons in Australia include his G1 winner Thorn Park, who is now himself a proven G1 producing sire with his 3yr old son JIMMY CHOUX taking the recent New Zealand Derby, G1, 2,400m while his 4yr old daughter THE PARTY STAND took the recent New Zealand Stakes, G1, 2,000m. Thorn Park stands at Windsor Park Stud, New Zealand (2011 fee to be announced). Thorn Park (pictured below) is from Spinning World’s first Australian crop and Thorn Park’s first crop are now 5yrs old. In turn, Spinning World’s eldest daughters’ progeny are just five years of age (and 6yrs of age in the Northern Hemisphere). Yet, already, Spinning World is proving himself as a successful broodmare sire.

To-date Spinning World is the broodmare sire of 12 individual Stakes winners worldwide (13 if you include the talented Hong Kong G1 winner CALIFORNIA MEMORY, by Highest Honor). His daughters have also produced the Grade 1 winner DAKOTA PHONE (Zavata); G2 winners SILK BLOSSOM (Barathea) and RESTORED (Red Ransom); G3 winners SAN SICHARIA (Daggers Drawn) and WHISPERING GALLERY (Daylami); Listed winners ANTARES WORLD (Decarchy), LITTLE SURFER GIRL (Encosta De Lago), SPIN CYCLE (Exceed and Excel), GREEN LYONS (Green Desert), KIRKINOLA (Selkirk), MISS LIBERTY (Statue of Liberty), and PANIPIQUE (Testa Rossa). It is extremely encouraging to see that as a broodmare sire, not only is Spinning World capable of producing Stakes winners in all corners of the globe, but he seems to cross successfully with mares by a variety of stallions.

Five of the above named Stakes winners are sired by Northern Dancer line sires (via sons of Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King, Danehill, Danzig and Perugino). The Sharpen Up line is represented twice (via his sons Diesis and Selkirk), and the Mill Reef, Mr. Prospector, Kenmare, Hail To Reason, Storm Bird and Clever Trick lines are all represented by a Stakes winner. It is early days but certainly we can say that Spinning World is proving to be a very versatile broodmare sire.

Breeders in Australia in particular should take note of his daughters’ affinity with Northern Dancer line sires, an abundance of which are standing in this country. Sons of Danehill, Danzig, Perugino, and Encosta De Lago will surely produce more Stakes winners from daughters of Spinning World. Inbreeding to Riverman has produced the HK G1 winner California Memory, while inbreeding to the matriarch Special has produced the listed winners Little Surfer Girl (Encosta De Lago) and Panipique (Perugino) and the G2 winner Silk Blossom (Barathea). NOTE: Spinning World’s sire Nureyev is by Northern Dancer, out of the mare Special. Perugino is by Danzig (Northern Dancer) out of Fairy Bridge (a daughter of Special), while Encosta De Lago is by Fairy King (Northern Dancer – Fairy Bridge). Barathea is by Sadler’s Wells – a full-brother to Fairy King… this inbreeding to Northern Dancer and Special = recipe for breeding Stakes winners out of Spinning World mares!

Spinning World was a 5-time Group 1 winner and Champion Miler, winning Group Ones in the US, France, England and Ireland. Initially shuttling between Ashford Stud in Kentucky and Coolmore Australia, he now resides permanently in Coolmore Australia. At stud, his successes have been as wide spread as his own globe trotting racing career. And now, in the early days of his broodmare sire days, his success is just as widespread and looks likely to perhaps eclipse the success he has enjoyed as a sire and on the track. While he may be in his twilight years, Spinning World is not yet resting on his laurels. For obvious reasons, his yearlings are still sought after: at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale his 3 yearlings offered sold for an average of $83,333 (off a $8,800 fee).

Spinning World represents great value at stud for a sire who is a proven G1 producer and he is one sire that owner/breeders should not be disappointed with if they produce a filly, for it is as a broodmare sire that Spinning World looks set to leave his greatest legacy.
